About the ISW Student Network

What is this ISW Student Network?

The Indigenous Social Work Student Network is a tool for Indigenous students across Canada who are pursuing studies in Social Work, to connect with one another. The goal of this network is to provide a virtual forum for Indigenous students to share ideas, discussion, resources, events, and an opportunity for social networking.

How did it get started?

The network is in close affiliation with the Canadian Association for Social Work Education (CASWE), specifically the Student Standing Committee, and the Indigenous Social Work Education Network (ISWEN). In the Spring of 2011, the student member of the CASWE Board of Directors approached the ISWEN to draw forth student participation on behalf of the ISWEN. You can read more about this by linking to the History of ISW Student Network page.

What is the ISWEN?

Currently, the Indigenous Social Work Education Network (ISWEN) functions in a 'network' capacity which means the network is affiliated with CASWE, but does not necessarily promote CASWE. The participating members of the ISWEN include Indigenous academics and professionals who both teach and work in the area of Social Work across Canada. ISWEN functions primarily through the maintenance of a listserv. The function of ISWEN is geared primarily towards those already teaching and working in the Social Work profession.

How to get involved

If you are an Indigenous student in Canada, and you are pursuing studies in the field of Social Work, please join the ISW Student Network listserv by e-mailing: ISWstudents@gmail.com.

The listserv will function as a tool to share events, postings, e-mails received from other networks such as the ISWEN listserv, or general information that may be of interest to members.

Other ways to get involved is to post comments and participate in any dialogue that can hopefully be created through this blog.

Your feedback is important!

Since this is a new endeavour, please share your constructive comments and suggestions for how to improve the functionality of this blog as a tool for virtual student connection with the current ISW Student representative by e-mailing the ISW Student e-mail address.
